What Our Guests Are Saying:
What a perfect way to start off 2021 with fireworks at the Trapp Family Lodge! Our family of four was looking for a quick, drive-able ski trip – and Stowe was an ideal choice. Super easy to drive and park, both at the Lodge and ski area. We felt very safe the entire time with lots of health checks, masks and social distancing, and less crowds made it a perfect time to go.
Accommodations were fantastic, as Trapp Lodge service was impeccable and certainly delivered on being a unique and nostalgic getaway from Zoom call reality that really made you feel like you were on vacation. Beds were very comfortable and bathrooms were more updated than I was expecting with fresh marble, tile and fixtures.
There were lots of opportunities to keep the New Years resolution going with an expansive pool, hot tub, climbing wall, gym and spa; in addition to all the outdoor activities. Plenty of temptations as well with great authentic Austrian inspired dishes, meats and cheeses as well as amazing locally brewed beers at their massive brewery. Trosten was my favorite while hot pretzels and beer cheese was the new found delicacy for our daughters. Kaffeehaus was also a family hit for a tasty and filling pre-ski breakfast sandwich, danish and of course great coffee.
I only wish we had another day to try out cross country or snowshoeing and get into the backcountry and Slayton Cabin. This will certainly be on our list for another winter visit, although the Lodge looks equally as enchanting across all four seasons.
My fiancé and I decided to enjoy a trip to the Trapp Family Lodge as a Christmas gift to each other. Beautiful surroundings, outstanding rooms, immaculately clean, outdoor activities included cross country ski lessons, and a snowshoe tour to the family chapel followed by outdoor hot tub and therapeutic massage…..Heaven.
I love Austria and “The Sound of Music”, so I was delighted when my husband surprised me with a booking here. We stayed for 4 nights during the peak of the fall leaf “popping”. We were blessed with perfect weather and we enjoyed the amazing breakfast on the patio every morning. The staff at the lodge are very friendly and helpful. We also had dinner there one evening and it was nice to have authentic European cooking. The food is very good and the service is excellent. We also took part in the Von Trapp Family History tour, which I highly recommend, even if you are not a big fan of the musical. My husband found the military history to be very interesting. The documentary film is excellent, too. This was the highlight of an amazing fall get-away trip to New England.
Staying at the Trapp Family Lodge was an experience unlike any other! The reason being there is so remarkable is because the place and expansive grounds (which include a fabulous Bier Hall, Outdoor/Ski Center, Spa/Fitness Center, cross-country trails and hiking and biking trails, and an actual goat herd high on a hill, no kidding, as well as other farm animals, a maple sugary, etc.) exude effortless authenticity, which for me evokes a kind of nostalgia. Plus, the owners’ and staff’s meticulous care for guests during COVID is evident.
My boyfriend and I spent the week over New Year’s Eve at one of the guest houses and participated in nearly all the property has to offer. Everything we ate was next-level good, and the curated cocktail list clearly was a result of creativity and expertise, and every one I tried was to die for.
One of the most memorable things that happened was when my boyfriend asked the pastry chef at the Kaffeehaus if they could recreate a cake he remembered having there years ago. In a true gesture of hospitality and fun, they made it happen!
It’s only fitting to also comment on Trapp’s adherence to Vermont’s regulations regarding COVID safety. Everyone I saw working or visiting there complied with gusto. When I think back on this trip years from now, it won’t be overshadowed by COVID, because I felt so safe. I’ll remember the convivial spirit of the staff, breathtaking mountain views, XC skiing, and having a romantic, incredible time.
Our family of 4 has visited the Trapp property 3 times now and each time the visit gets better — whether it be the summer with the awesome hiking, the fall with the great the foliage or the winter with the skiing and snowshoeing. I can’t think of another place that offers such a different (and terrific) experience each season! There is so much to do with the kids (even during a pandemic) and their COVID precautions are exceptional. This place is a terrific gem. (P.S We’ve never seen the movie, we just think this place can stand on its own as a destination)
